Louise
Koehler
Owatonna, Minnesota
Louise was a charter member of the North Star Lily Society. In
her yard in Owatonna she grew many different types of flowers.
If you walked through her garden and admired a specific plant,
she would get the shovel and start digging a piece of it to share
with you. She did a lot of research work for Norma Pfiffer and
was a wealth of horticultural information for all who talked
with her.
Louise was responsible for five registered lilies and shared
the introduction of one with Merv Eisel.
Hugh
Cocker remembers Louise Koehler:
"Louise
was a farm wife in the Owatonna area.
She was one of the most interesting people I ever
met.
Her knowledge was amazing and she was generous to a fault.
I came
home one
time with 12 lilies in bloom that she dug out of her
garden and gave to me in bread wrappers. They all lived! After
Louise
moved
to the city of Owatonna, she did a lot of gardening in
a very small space. Two of Louise’s well known
lilies are 'Hawaiian
Punch' and 'Louise'.”
